the process

Starting therapy can be intimidating. Here’s what to expect:

schedule the consult

Book a time for us to chat! We offer free 20-minute phone consultations that you can book online. This is the best way for you to see if you and your new potential therapist “click,” and get your individual questions answered directly. If you and your therapist agree it’s a good fit, we will schedule an initial session and you will receive several important documents to review & sign in your online client portal.

01

review the details

Log in to your client portal (link will be sent to your email) to review and sign the documents, including our practice & privacy (HIPAA) policies, informed consent to engage in therapy, and intake questionnaire. Don’t hesitate to reach out with any questions about this! After you review and sign these documents, you’re ready for your first appointment.

02

take the plunge

It’s really happening!! We meet for our first session together. It’s normal to feel a bit nervous or awkward (especially if this is your first therapy experience). During this session, your therapist will be hoping to get a deeper understanding of your personal history, current challenges, and your intentions/goals for therapy.

03

find the path

Over the first few sessions, you and your therapist will collaborate to clarify not only your intentions for therapy, but also HOW you will work together to help you get there. Do you love or hate somatic work? Want to meet more or less frequently? Get irritated by or love a certain modality? Great! Let’s find your unique path and keep walking!

practice policies

  • Emily’s individual therapy & coaching sessions are billed at $200 for 50-min sessions

  • We accept cash, check, major credit cards & F/HSAs

  • Payment is due at the time of service

  • We maintain a strict 24-hr cancellation policy. Your card will be charged the full session fee if cancelled or rescheduled within 24-hrs of your originally scheduled appointment.

  • We do not accept insurance of any kind

  • We are happy to provide invoices or “superbills” upon request. These are useful if you have out-of-network mental health benefits through your health insurance. Invoices will be available in your client portal or emailed to you.

  • Regarding COVID, we will meet using a HIPAA compliant video platform or in-person with appropriate precautions. If you have any symptoms on the day of an in-person session, notify me ASAP and we will switch to video or reschedule.

  • If you currently have Medicaid, unfortunately we cannot work together. The state of Colorado considers it fraud for a private-pay therapist to work with a client who has Medicaid. I can refer you to Medicaid providers in our community.

“Dealing with any of our life’s difficulties is not a battle to be fought. Instead, we must learn how to make friends with our hardships and challenges. They are there to help us; they are natural opportunities for deeper understanding and transformation, bringing us more joy and peace as we learn to work with them.”
